Hey guys,

That's a good idea Dr Michael, we should be focusing on technique now as its going to get harder coming within months of the gradings. Also the hood idea is good i like it, Maybe we should shave our heads to look the part..

Regards,

Ammar

Glad to see the Provisionals working together in preparation!

I hope you enjoy the months leading up to the challenge.

If you'll allow me to give some advice it would be to; work hard, work as a team, have fun along the way and don't peak too early! Also this is your time to show that you can be role models to the junior belts, they should see the dedication that goes into preparing for a Black Belt Grading. You should aim to be present in all Hapkido events leading up to the day. This includes gradings and seminars. You should also be seen to take the INITIATIVE in things such as looking after the Dojang when it's cleaning night. Being the last one out the Dojang door is never a bad thing.

And for heaven's sakes don't misspell your team name on your T-shirts. You'll never live it down.

Good luck candidates,

Mira, CG

Ma'm Mira,

thanks for you kind advise and support, we will work hard in our training and ensuring we are good role models for junior students. If we are not doing a good job please give us a knock in the head to remind us :)

Hi everyone,

Just want to share my experience from the throwing and falling seminar the other day. GMG and Master Jimmy held an amazing seminar on throwing and falling but also included some "street Hapkido" techniques. The fact that GMG is going away on another trip made me feel like we are lucky to have him as our Grandmaster.

It was great being the crash test dummy with Fabian. I remember watching other provisional in my position and being where i am now it puts my Hapkido journey into perspective.

My Advice to junior belts is to experience as many seminars as you can because once you reach the higher belts, it will make the journey that much better. Plus you get to see how the concepts are applied and theres no one better then GMG.

Kind regards,

Ammar

Hi Provisionals,

How is everyone coming along with their training?
Would anyone like to organise some dates for the upcoming months to train together in all three dojangs?

Solon

Hi Provisionals,
It's great to hear you're planning to take advantage of training at the other Dojangs. I've always felt welcome and enjoyed the cameraderie when I've been to Sydney or Wagga Wagga. Although I'm not up there at the moment, I feel a strong spiritual bond, and look forward to getting together for the Big One in July. Meanwhile, I'm training well with excellent support from Master John, Sir Simon, Sir Adam and Sir Leon, and I've got an enthusiastic group of senior belts to practice with.

A couple of things I've found helpful on my journey, which particularly help my older body get through each class, are:

- Put maximum effort into Tan-Jun breathing:- it's exhausting, but it gives you more endurance for the rest of the class.
- If/when you are getting fatigued/breathless during the class, remember to breathe with your diaphragm ("abdominal breathing"), rather than the less efficient upper chest breathing (the old "stomach in, chest out" maxim has been discredited).
- When you're really spent and your muscles are burning from lactic acidosis, try and relax (again, diaphragm breathing), bending the knees into a lighter stance, remembering of course, to keep one's guard up! I'm actually jogging at times with my guard up to facilitate this stance. Then just keep going and the "second wind" will surely kick in.

Best wishes,
Dr Mick
