Being threated on the street

Postby Aaron tuckwell » Sun Oct 17, 2010 8:08 pm

How can you tell if someone is a fighter when you are being threated?
What do you watch for?
Do they take stance before attacking?
Why do people push before they fight?
How do you defend yourself when you are driving a car?
I would like to hear anyone's opinions on these questions
and has anyone being in a situation before. Thankyou Aaron Tuckwell

You won't know until the first punch is thrown. This is something I've discussed with other students, most people who progress in a chosen martial art usually learn self control and restraint. So really, why are you getting into a fight with a trained fighter? Why does it matter? Will knowing they can fight mean you should fighter better? (You should always fight better).

One obvious clue if they are trained in BJJ (at least), is if they go for your legs and try to take it to the ground. A Taekwondo trained person will want room to kick. I couldn't speculate on other styles and how they would fight in the street. Its not a tournament nor sparring, don't treat it as such.

I would be watching their friends (if they have them) and my location/options for escape.

Would you?

Pushing is just another form of posturing. Its a soft start to a fight to see if the other person will back down.

Keep driving.

Good answers Ben, how many fights have you being in or close to getting in fights apart from school?
