Neelab - that is correct.

You have two vessels. One has a capacity of 8 litres and the other of 3 litres. How do you use them to get exactly 7 litres of water?

I believe you require a third holding vessel of unlimited capacity.

You fill the third vessel with the 3L twice = 6L
The you fill the 8L with the 3L three times. On the third fill you allow the run off (Run off = 1L) to go into the third vessel. = 7L.

?

You can only use the 2 vessels.

Ma'am, Are they open ended vessels? Like cups? and does one fit inside the other?

Got it.

You fill the 8L vessel with the 3L vessel till it is full. This leaves 1L in the 3L vessel. You now empty out the 8L vessel and pour in the 1L from the 3L vessel. You now fill the 8L vessel with the 3L vessel twice (i.e. add 6L.) With the 1L + 6L = 7L. :)

I can be quick and then I'm deadly,
I am a rock, shell and bone medley,
If I was made into a man, I'd make people dream,
I gather in my millions by ocean, sea and stream.

Sand.

A frog is labouring hard to climb up the marshy wall of a deep well. He manages to climb 3 metres during the day, and while resting at night slips back 2 metres. How many days will he take to complete his task of scaling 30 metres?

The riddle looks like it can be solved by calculating 3 minus 2 multiplied by days.

It will take him until he is eaten by a predator or 30 days have passed.

I am not a mathematics teacher for a reason :)
What is the catch?

The catch is that he escapes at 30 meters and doesn't slide down another 2. So its only 30 days if he get to 30 and slides down to 28, then he would end up at 31, then slide down to 29, etc.

At 26 days he reaches 30 meters and escapes. :)

I am the owner of a pet store. If I put one canary in each cage, I have one canary too many. If I put in two canaries per cage, I have one cage too many. How many cages and canaries do I have?
